Blossoms & Big Moments: Taylor’s Orchard Senior Session in Dowagiac, MI

Spring really shows off in Southwest Michigan. The trees explode with blossoms, the light turns soft and golden, and everything just feels new again. It's hands-down one of my favorite times of year to shoot senior portraits—and this orchard session with Taylor, one of my 2026 Icons, was everything I love about spring rolled into one beautiful evening.

We met up at her grandpa’s farm in Dowagiac, Michigan—which, by the way, is a total hidden gem if you’ve never driven those country roads in bloom. The rows of apple trees were showing off in the best way, and we couldn’t have timed it better.

Meet Taylor – Senior Rep, Style Queen, and Orchard Muse

Taylor is one of my Icons this year—aka my senior rep team—and she’s just an absolute natural in front of the camera. She’s lowkey stylish, totally herself, and so easy to hang out with. The kind of session where everything just clicks.

I’ve known Taylor since she was little. Her mom is one of my dearest longtime friends—we met way back when we were Taylor's age. Life is busy now (for both of us), but getting to be part of this milestone for her family was really special. And being able to do it in a place that means something to them? Even better.

Why Southwest Michigan Blossoms Are That Girl

We shot in Dowagiac, which is tucked into Cass County, but honestly, this whole corner of Michigan brings the heat when it comes to spring blooms. I’m based in Coloma (shoutout to Berrien County!), but I shoot all over Michigan's Great Southwest! This area is full of rolling fields and farm roads that are crazy photogenic in the spring. It’s like nature designed this region specifically for senior photos.

Spring sessions don’t get as much hype as fall, but honestly? If you want something unique and soft and full of fresh, floral vibes—spring is where it’s at. The blossoms don’t last long, but the payoff is major. Think delicate colors, flattering light, and a whole lot of dreamy. So seniors, as you are planning your sessions this year make sure you keep Spring of 2026 in mind! That cap and gown looks really nice with those spring flowers - just sayin!

Let’s Make This Your Year

Whether you’re from St. Joe, Otsego, Decatur, White Pigeon, Kalamazoo, or some little town no one else can spell—there’s a spot for your session that fits you. I’m all about photos that feel personal, natural, and just a little bit extra (because we’re not here for boring).

Taylor’s session had all the right ingredients: meaningful location, killer light, and a senior who trusted the process. That’s the goal with every shoot—not just pretty pictures, but portraits that feel like you.
